Last but not least of the trio of Lenovo tablets launched yesterday is the Lenovo IdeaPad P1 tablet. We’ve known this simply as the “Lenovo IdeaPad Slate” since it showed up at CES at the start of the year. It’s basically an Intel powered, Windows 7 version of the IdeaPad K1 with just a few minor tweaks to the design, like no rear facing camera and being offered in different colors – orange and gray. The processor is not mentioned but it is 1.5GHz, and prior to going official it was Oak Trail, so an Atom Z670 processor is likely to fit the bill. Last of all, it’s being touted with a pressure sensitive capacitive stylus. The specs – the same 10.1″ 1280 x 800 display, up to 2GB of RAM and either a 32GB or 64GB SSD for storage, b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, optional 3G, a front-facing 0.3MP webcam, mono speaker, a 6 hour battery and Windows 7 Starter to Professional. Ports include a USB 2.0 port, SIM card slot, microSD card reader, and docking port. It weighs 810g / 1.79 pounds and is 14.5mm thick. This tablet is the farthest out from launch with no word on pricing but it’s still expected to launch within Q4 towards the end of the year. Add Comment Hot Cars 02/24/2012

The LED taillamps on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 According to Lambo, the taillamps of its V-10-powered Gallardo are supposed to conjure up images of propellers. Fair enough, but to us the three-pronged LED strips look more like directional arrows (sort of makes sense, no?). Consider it a thoughtful way to tell the cops which horizon you're about to disappear over. Approximately $200,000, The front fascia on the Dodge Challenger R/T With the new Challenger, Dodge has managed to do what Ford and Chevy haven't: produce a retro design that's not insufferably cute. That's thanks in no small part to the broad inset front grille, which is as appealingly aggressive as anything on the road. Unfortunately, it also wreaks havoc with the car's aerodynamic performance. But then, when you've got 376 horsepower to play around with, what's a little wind resistance? $29,320, dodge.com The teardrop side window on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Designed to evoke the company's great sports/race cars of the sixties, the 8C is voluptuous where other modern sports cars are be-winged and raw-boned—which is never more evident than in its sweeping, curvaceous side windows. All the better for enjoying the blurry views created by the Ferrari-designed V-8 under the hood. Approximately $150,000, alfaromeo.com The rear hatch on the Pontiac Solstice Coupe This tiny, badge-shaped piece of glass evokes the style of sixties sports racers—and helps the passenger cabin taper into the best-looking rear end in Detroit. (Sorry, Meg White.) From the low- to mid-$20,000 range, pontiac.com The lighted headliner on the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe Leave it to Rolls to take a concept traditionally associated with senior-prom limos and make it almost tasteful. Instead of mirrors and pink neon, the Phantom employs hundreds of tiny white LEDs to achieve its starry effect. The result is nicely understated, though perhaps no more likely to get you laid than a nice corsage and the right Journey track. About $349,750, rolls-roycemotorcars.com The paint-free exterior on the Bugatti Veyron Pur Sang Leave the Hermès-branded version of the world's fastest and priciest production car to the label whores. The Pur Sang (literally "pure blood" or "thoroughbred") version is some 300 grand cheaper—presumably thanks to forgoing niceties like paint—and its elegant, polished-aluminum-and-carbon-fiber-body is offered up au naturel. About $2,050,000, bugatti.com The LED daytime running lamps on the Audi A4 Here, Audi proves that regulatory necessity can be the mother of good design. Instead of just leaving the low-beams burning in broad daylight, the carmaker opted to drape a string of pearly-white LEDs under the main headlight elements, granting a demure shape a much needed dash of menace. Approximately $29,000, audiusa.com The auxiliary gauges on the Chevrolet Camaro This retro-modern mash-up comes with four rectangular auxiliary gauges mounted in front of the shifter, and if you think you've seen 'em before, you're right. They were purloined directly from the first (and best) generation of the Camaro—the one from the late sixties, long before anyone ever uttered the word "IROC." (And yes, we know that the new Camaro is technically a 2010 model, but we're including it here because it goes on sale next March.) Approximately $30,000, chevrolet.com/camaro/ The C-pillar on the Nissan GT-R Nicknamed Godzilla, the 480-hp GT-R shares both the killer lizard's brute vigor and its general aesthetic brutishness. In other words: Dainty it ain't. But the sharp horizontal crease halfway up the C-pillar is one of the more original design cues on any current car, and the way the roofline extends forward from the top of that pillar is almost—dare we say—elegant. $69,850, gtrnissan.com The grooves on the Ford Flex Inspired by sources as diverse as hearses, the Scion xB, and vintage canister vacuum cleaners (seriously), the Flex may be Ford's boldest design since the original Taurus. Its most underrated detail: the four grooves stamped on each door panel, which visually lower and lengthen the six-passenger vehicle by reinforcing its perfectly horizontal stance—a design motif repeated on the car's grille. Hands down, the best-looking dead sled ever. From $28,295, fordvehicles.com The wheel flares on the Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black Series For the SL65 Black Series, Mercedes decided to throw out the last bits of visual grace that have long marked the SL series as a gentlemen's convertible. Question that decision if you must, but don't deny the appeal of those voluptuous carbon-fiber fenders. Their justification? Containing the Black Series' huge tires, which take frequent and merciless beatings from the absurdly strong 670-horsepower engine. Sometimes gentlemanliness is overrated. $320,000, mercedes-amg.com Some Like Her Hot 02/24/2012

No matter how many crunches you do, you won't look or feel your best if you're suffering from bloating—you know, that swollen, gassy, acidy feeling that makes skinny jeans an impossibility. Follow these strategies, and eat these flat-belly foods, to keep your digestion system humming along. From Self.com Slim Eating Strategies Generally, the best way to avoid bloat is to stay away from soda, alcohol and greasy, salty, fatty meals, which slow the stomach and the intestines from emptying, according to Timothy S. Harlan (a.k.a. Dr. Gourmet), M.D., medical director of Tulane University's School of Medicine. However, if you know you're going to be over-indulging – for a weekend celebration or a big holiday meal—you can be proactive by eating certain flat-belly foods before the big event. On the following slides are some of Dr. Harlan's top picks, based on the latest scientific research. Papaya There's some research that says the enzyme in papaya may aid digestion. Mix diced papaya into plain organic yogurt for breakfast, and if you're making a holiday dessert, consider panna cotta with a fresh papaya puree over top. Oatmeal According to Harlan, in a recent meta-analysis of a number of studies related to digestion, researchers found that oat bran can be particularly beneficial. Harlan recommends having oatmeal for breakfast and, over the holidays, using oatmeal in your pie crust. Yogurt The key is to make sure you're choosing a yogurt that has "active cultures," which will increase the number of "good" bacteria in your gut, helping you digest more efficiently and preventing that belly from blowing up. Harlan says to look for organic plain yogurt (which is very likely to contain the active cultures), and to steer clear of anything with "fruit on the bottom." If you need a touch of sweet, stir in some strawberry jam. Asparagus There's some really interesting new data about asparagus that indicates that it has some probiotic benefits," says Harlan. So it may ease the build-up of gas and, because of its diuretic properties, also flush waste and excess water from your body. Quinoa Quinoa: The potassium in quinoa has been shown to beat bloat -- plus, this South American grain is a great source of the minerals magnesium, phosphorous and especially manganese. It packs both fiber (2.6 grams per 1/2 cup) and protein, a stellar nutrient combo that can keep you satisfied for hours. This weekend, the music industry lost an incomparable talent with the death of singer Whitney Houston, at the much-too-young age of 48. Here's a look back at her career and life in pictures. By thefrisky.com Whitney Houston At Her Mom’s Home In New JerseyWhitney Elizabeth Houston was born in 1963 in Newark, NJ. Whitney Houston & Clive DavisClive Davis discovered Whitney at the age of 20 and mentored her for over 25 years. Whitney Houston, “Whitney Houston”Her 1985 eponymous breakout album, Whitney Houston, debuted to moderate sales, but thanks to three consecutive number one singles, the album eventually hit number on on the Billboard Top 200 Chart in March 1986. "I didn't do anything without him. I wasn't getting high by myself. It was me and him together, and we were partners, and that's what my high was — him. He and I being together, and whatever we did, we did it together. No matter what, we did it together." Whitney Houston & Dionne WarwickWhitney Houston's cousin and close confidant was Dionne Warwick. Whitney Houston In “The Bodyguard”The 1992 movie wasn't particularly loved by critics, but fans went buts for the love story between a singer (Houston) and her bodyguard (Kevin Costner). The soundtrack for the film is the best-selling soundtrack of all time, due in part to the success of the single "I Will Always Love You." Whitney Houston At The Super BowlWhitney Houston sang the National Anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl in Tampa. Whitney Houston & Bobby BrownThe couple's marriage, which lasted 14 years, was passionate and tumultuous, to say the least. From a 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey: **** Oprah: Was he jealous of you? Whitney: He's not going to like this, but yes. Oprah: Then did you try to overcompensate? Whitney: I tried to play down all the time. I did. I tried to play: "I'm Mrs. Brown, everybody. Don't call me Ms. Houston." Oprah: You started to dim your own light? Whitney: Yep. Sure did.**** Whitney Houston & Daughter Bobbi Kristina BrownHouston took daughter Bobbi Kristina to last year's pre-Grammy party hosted by Clive Davis. Bobbi Kris was born in 1994. Suspended Nightclub in Hong Kong by Matthew Hussey There are nightclubs on top of buildings, underwater, on board boats, and inside buses. But, if architectural studio Urbanplunger has its way, the newest hangout will be hung from another building. The team’s design, which won the Night Club Hotel in Hong Kong’s design competition, uses the surrounding buildings as a framework to hang off and support the structure. At ground level is a green space that is connected to the dangling structure above via a series of glass elevators. Directly above is the nightclub, which forms just one part of the overall building. Above that is a public lobby, which provides access to a spa, swimming pool, restaurants, and a business center. Keep going and you reach the hotel, which, thanks to the tapering design of the building, comes with its own balconies and aerial villas in the presidential suite. At present, this parasitic building design is bathing in the glory of winning the design competition, so we're waiting to see if a building firm is brave enough to take this fantastic project on. We hope so. The building rests on top of those around it, removing the need for a supporting structure. The sprawling nature of the upper parts allows the building to have balconies looking over the Hong Kong skyline. A schematic of the plan's development, if it was ever built. A cross-section of the floors as they rise through the building. The nightclub is anything but an afterthought -- it takes up nine of the lower-ground floors. 11 The Best New American Cars of the Year 02/14/2012
Divisions were shuttered, workers sacked, supply contracts abrogated. The government put its right foot in and then put its right foot out, and change came to the American auto industry. Now, profits are returning, ludicrous executive bonuses are back, and, best of all, we have many new and improved domestic cars vying for our attention. Here are the notables Chrysler 300 SRT8 If the BMW M5 is like a Predator drone (deadly, requires little human input) then the 300 SRT8 is a pipe bomb full of rusty nails, built by an angry 17-year-old: crude but effective, and highly skill-dependent. The recipe is simple but effective: Stuff a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 into a regular 300C, with minimal tip-offs as to the 465 horsepower lurking beneath the hood. Add a machine-gun exhaust note and big brakes, then hang on for dear life. Cheap(ish) and worrisomely effective. Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Not to be outdone by the Dodge Challenger SRT8, Chevrolet's hottest Camaro packs a 580-horsepower supercharged V8 shared with the Cadillac CTS-V. It's said to lap the Nürburgring in 7:41—but considerably more relevant, we suspect, will be how long a patch of rubber this 21st-century pony car will leave in front of your local pizzeria. Ford Explorer/Edge EcoBoost The last time you could sell Americans a four-cylinder truck with a straight face, alcohol was illegal and folks were doing the Lindy Hop. But Ford is rolling back the clock while turning it forward, betting big on EcoBoost turbo engines, and pitching their 2.0-liter, 240-horsepower motor as a premium option for their Explorer SUV and Edge crossover. Towing capacity is said to be slightly diminished, but fuel economy is up to 21/30 mpg. For most buyers, this is all the ponies they'll ever need, and a sub-$1,000 premium makes it a worthwhile option. Chevrolet Sonic It only sort of looks like something your parents bought for you with no money down, but the Sonic is the American-built car (engineered in Korea, Europe, and America) we've been promised since the Feds' bailout: decent quality, fuel-efficient, quick, and practical. While Ford's Fiesta may have gotten all the ink, here's another small car that doesn't make you feel like you're stuck in the penalty box, whether you're battling pimples or drawing a pension. Buick Verano Buick's image has been liberated by parent GM's deep-sixing of Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Saturn, and by the brand's runaway success in China. Together, they've created the need to occupy greater psychic floor space, so it's no surprise that the Verano—the smallest Buick in ages—was crafted from the underpinnings of Chevrolet's best-selling Cruze, or that Buick's goal was to build a supremely quiet appliance that could help shift its traditional Perry Como-listening customers into something more fuel-efficient without alienating potential younger, hipper customers. With a 250-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder among the available powerplants, everyone's image of Buick, not just its own, may have to change. Chevrolet Malibu The perfectly respectable outgoing Malibu was a long-overdue riposte to the Camrys and Accords that had stolen Middle America's one-time mid-sized favorite's lunch. Now as GM works to extend the global reach of Chevrolet—what was once primarily an American-market brand—with ahigh-profile launch in Korea, the 2013 Malibu has been designed with the rest of the world's peoples and tastes in mind. It's smaller on the outside and gets a choice of four-cylinder engines, while at the same time getting more rear legroom, the sort of feature that plays as well in Seoul as it does in Scranton. Ford Focus ST Highly regarded in England, hot hatches formerly based on Ford Escorts and Fiestas were rowdy cars for hooligans with a taste for knife crime, public housing, and army surplus jackets. We've had a few nibbles on this side of the Atlantic, but nearly three decades after the Thatcher era, we're finally ready for our first extended taste of a European-engineered "Fast Ford." We can imagine a more mental Focus, but for now the option of buying one of these sure-handling machines with a 247-horsepower turbo four-cylinder, suspension upgrades, and a six-speed gearbox makes us want to slip on our hoodie, make a dash for the nearest cell-phone store/sneaker emporium, and start rioting. Most compelling, innit? Ford C-Max Ford's Euro-style seven-seater was supposed to make its way over here in all its variants, but now we're just getting the hybrid with five seats. Not sure we understand the reasoning behind that—with Ford you can never rule out internecine corporate politics—but no biggie, since this compact van is intended to be the replacement for the Escape Hybrid. We wish it still had a third row option, though to be honest we didn't ever want to be stuck sitting there. The plug-in C-Max Energi will be a slightly more expensive powertrain option for urbanites with young families, and the hybrid of choice for tomorrow's super-green. Ford Escape The outgoing Mazda-based Escape turned out to be a surprise home run for Ford. But, with nearly 10 years under its belt and Ford and Mazda unwinding their technical association, it was time for Ford's homegrown (er, mostly European) engineers to lead the charge. Offering much swoopier style, along with multiple four-cylinder engines (including, yes, an EcoBoost) and a trick tailgate that offers hands-free operation via a sweep of your foot under the rear bumper, the new Escape has its work cut out for it, facing off against Honda's new CR-V and Mazda's excellent CX-5. But chances are it will still be swinging the heavy lumber for the Blue Oval in the sales derby. Ford Mustang Boss 302 The second-most powerful Mustang is the baddest by far, with a no-nonsense interior, a tweaked 444-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8, side exhaust pipes, and an available TracKey that lets the owner get the most out of his car during a lapping day...or stoplight Grand Prix. Chassis composure which defies the humble on-paper suspension design, a super-slick six-speed manual gearbox, and a satisfyingly sophisticated exhaust note make this one Mustang that can't help but run with the real sports cars. Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 One of the universal rides of choice for young-adult douchebags everywhere, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is actually pretty cool, in a sort of "no SUV should be able to do this" kind of way. Trotting out the winning combination of the 6.4-liter Hemi—Chrysler's go-to parlor trick—and all-wheel drive, the G-Cherk should be able to lay down sub-five second 60 times all day long. This will keep the douchebags occupied, but let's hope they can muster the good sense to remember this one's more show and go than tow. You hate to see smoky burnouts and Airstream trailers in the same sentence. Top 10 New Movies, Feb 2012 02/05/2012

Instead of reaching for shapewear when your sexy new date night dress doesn't fit, these tummy toning tips from celebrity trainer and Fitness Advisor for USANA Health Sciences, Kathy Kaehler. Drink Plenty of H2O Skip the soda and the wine. Opt for water, water, and more water instead. Drinking water flushes the system and helps flatten out your mid-section. Tone Up A fantastic exercise to do on a daily basis is the plank. Hold it for at least one minute or build up to that. It works the core muscles from top to bottom and inside out. A super strong core keeps that belly pulled in and tight. Limit the Gassy Foods When you want to slim-down that belly to fit into clothes for a big night out, keep the veggies at bay hours before you dress. That will limit the gas and reduce the bloat. Kick up the Cardio Walk, walk, walk! I have all my clients, including Julia Roberts, walk. Whether you are outside or on a treadmill, walking is a great way to trim up the body, keep you at your ideal weight and, because you use most of your muscles, add more lean body weight (which burns more calories and helps you stay lean!). Twist It Out On top of cardio (the fastest way to burn the fat that's covering those dying-to-make-their-debut abs), take a few yoga classes during the week. Certain postures such as "Seated Spinal Twist" and "Triangle" are known for aiding in digestion by wringing out your system and massaging your organs, helping to minimize belly bloat. Whether you're a yoga rookie or a regular, before class, mention to your instructor that you would like to focus on twisting postures. Philips Fidelio Wireless Speaker 01/31/2012
There are a lot of products lying around our homes and offices that we never quite needed but really, really wanted. A wireless speaker system for streaming music from our iPhones, Droids and BBs is pretty close to the top of the list. You could just unplug the speakers from your computer or load up Spotify or RDIO… but you already have apps for those so why not cut the cables? It’s especially hard not to rationalize when the speaker system in question looks like it was designed by Dyson like this Philips Fidelio system. If you have an iPhone, use the free Fidelio app and stream with AirPlay – while your iPod/iPhone/iPad charges. You’re not in the quiet if you have some other device, you just have to hook it up with a cable. It’s also battery powered, so you can literally take it with you if you want. $300 | Trendy Blogs
